Growing Old: Two Different Possible Results

Martha’s Poem this week is about the shrinking world that can occur when we age–“Older is Smaller.”  Some aspects of this is unavoidable–physical limitations that occur with age– or is it?

As you age your world shrinks if you let it. So many give in and do not move from the easy chair and TV.  You do not have to be that way.  With modern communications, you can talk to and see most anyone no matter where they are.  Of course you might have to learn new things to do so.  A brief survey of handicaped young people and how they overcome their handicaps tells one it is really up to you as to how isolated you really are.

The essay today is entitled “Put Out to Pasture”  It describes how little seniors are respected and valued in today’s society.  Again, if you are ignored in your church, for example, you can take positive action to give you life meaning.  You determine your feelings of  meaning and purpose by what you actually think and do.  No organization or other person can devalue the worth that God has given you.  But, you cant just set on your hands and do nothing.  You must be the one who finds that activity that provides purpose in your life. No one else can.

  1. Good article. Yes, our world is becoming smaller. COVID accelerated the separation. Many older people haven’t recovered from it & have stayed Isolated. Heartbreaking! We miss many of our older friends.
