Commentary: What Are Your Plans? Do you always Carry Thru?

view From the Front Porch Porch

Hello Everyone:  It is turning out to be an eventful three weeks—All staring on Tuesdays.  On Tuesday two weeks ago we traveled to LA to visit with our friends the Fosters.  We also were there to pick up our brave and accomplished 18 year old granddaughter, Penelope Michener–Jaynes daughter.  She was flying in from Tahiti where she completed a 3 1/3 month 12 hour college course on a 100 ft sailing schooner.   We all were to fly on home on the following Tuesday. Well, at the airport  to leave for home my upper tooth implant came out–broken post. Next, on  the plane, the gold crown next to it came off.  Called the dentist from the airport and had an appointment shortly after arrival.

In the meantime, we had a mandatory meeting the Tuesday after arriving home.  The meeting was for for  Martha at MD Anderson in Houston for her regular lymphoma cancer meeting. All was good.

Then , this coming Tuesday I am having extensive dental surgery to remove the broken post and remove the abscessed tooth where the gold crown was located.

Three Tuesdays were planned but the coming one certainly wasn’t.  A multitude of things we need to do are put on whole.  I didn’t plan the expense, the pain nor certainly the restricted  diet of  “soft” cold or lukewarm food.

Though I had hoped to resume the weekly new essay and poem shortly after returning from our LA trip and the trip to MD Anderson, that is not possible.   It will be a couple of weeks or more before this is possible.

The essay speaks somewhat to this uncertainly of life. But at the same time there is a certain time for each when you will open a door whether you wish to or not.  Do you tremble in fear at this prospect?  Or do you anticipate a new adventure?

  1. Wow, you all had many things to go on these past several weeks. Your travels were safe. The results for Martha were good. You got to spend time with family you may not see for a while. God is looking out for you. Love you both, David

  2. Praying for rapid, uneventful healing, Dad (as well as a newfound love of soft and cold food in contrast to many decades of preferring piping hot food.) And thanks for meeting up with our kiddo in LA!

  3. Praise God for Martha’s good results at MD Anderson. I regret not being in town when you came to Houston. Also, prayers for complete dental recovery for you. The 80s are an age of constant health adventure. We rejoice with you on your “granddaughter time.” We will not be going to Kauai in August as previously planned because our granddaughter who was to join us from Denmark has been admitted to some special post-grad course which starts in early August. Love and best wishes,
