Hubris and Today’s Culture

Jan. 25, 2023

Hubris: an extreme and unreasonable feeling of pride and confidence in yourself: [i] In simple terms this means you think you can make decisions for everyone as you know better than others.  This seems to be a pervasive disease of our time.  Recently the 2024 Devos conference of the World Economic Forum was held.   The World Economic Forum “provides a platform to engage in constructive, forward-looking dialogues and help find solutions through public-private cooperation”.[ii] It meets annually in January at Devos, Switzerland. It is by invitation only for the leaders of governments,  corporations, and economic, and environmental organizations.  It is an organization created to set the agenda for the world.  The COVID pandemic was an excuse for its founder, Professor Klaus Schwab, [iii]to set the agenda for what he called “The Great Reset.”  Here are the three main components of The Great Reset:[iv]

  • The first would steer the market toward fairer outcomes. To this end, governments should improve coordination (for example, in tax, regulatory, and fiscal policy), upgrade trade arrangements, and create the conditions for a “stakeholder economy. Moreover, governments should implement long-overdue reforms that promote more equitable outcomes. Depending on the country, these may include changes to wealth taxes, the withdrawal of fossil-fuel subsidies, and new rules governing intellectual property, trade, and competition.
  • The second component of a Great Reset agenda would ensure that investments advance shared goals, such as equality and sustainability. Here, the large-scale spending programs that many governments are implementing represent a major opportunity for progress. The European Commission, for one, has unveiled plans for a €750 billion ($826 billion) recovery fund. The US, China, and Japan also have ambitious economic-stimulus plans.

Rather than using these funds, as well as investments from private entities and pension funds, to fill cracks in the old system, we should use them to create a new one that is more resilient, equitable, and sustainable in the long run. This means, for example, building “green” urban infrastructure and creating incentives for industries to improve their track record on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics.

  • The third and final priority of a Great Reset agenda is to harness the innovations of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to support the public good, especially by addressing health and social challenges.

The WEF or Devos also adheres to the Development Sustainability Goals of the United Nations.  These goals have the following agenda:

  • Adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 2015, the 17 “Sustainable Development Goals” (SDGs) are the layout to achieve a better and more sustainable world for all by 2030. These goals are a call for action to address a series of global challenges, such as: poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, and justice. A growing number of corporations use SDGs to orient, prioritize, and report on their CSR (Corporate Sustainability Report) activities[v

It should be obvious from the above that this is an attempt to control the lives of the people of the world by a few “enlightened individuals.”  The influence of the WEF and DSG has invaded our culture and is pervasive.   Financial institutions are using CSR to evaluate capital decisions.  This is not in the interest of individual shareholders.  The decisions of the WEF and DSG  are the epitome of hubris.

There are major concerns that these decisions will have on individual freedoms. v

  • “The WEF’s annual gatherings in Davos have become synonymous with elite discussions and high-stakes decisions. Yet, the influence wielded within closed doors raises concerns about the lack of transparency and accountability. The decisions made during these gatherings have far-reaching consequences for individuals worldwide, yet the average citizen is left in the dark about the forces shaping [vi]their economic and technological future.
  • The Veiled Nature of WEF’s Decisions: Behind the veneer of economic collaboration, a concerning lack of transparency shrouds the decision-making processes of the WEF. Critical discussions occur away from public scrutiny, prompting questions about whose interests are truly being served. The opacity surrounding the WEF’s initiatives raises valid concerns about the trade-offs made on behalf of the global populace and the potential erosion of personal freedoms in the process.
  • Global Governance and Individual Autonomy: One of the most significant concerns is the WEF’s push towards global governance models. While collaboration on a global scale is crucial, the danger lies in the potential compromise of the sovereignty of individual nations. Handing over decision-making power to unelected entities threatens the core tenets of democracy. Citizens should have a say in the rules that govern their lives, and global decisions should not undermine the personal freedoms of individuals.
  • Technological Overreach and Privacy Concerns: As the WEF delves into shaping global policies on technology, artificial intelligence, and data governance, concerns about privacy and individual autonomy intensify. While these topics are undeniably important, the unelected nature of the decision-makers raises questions about the extent to which personal freedoms are being sacrificed in the pursuit of technological progress. The potential misuse of advanced technologies underscores the need for public discourse and input in these critical matters.”
  •

If you value freedom and personal autonomy, you should be concerned about any U.S. leader who adheres to these secretive, and unelected elites making decisions for how you live—in all aspects  of your life. It’s time to wake up to what’s happening.  Otherwise, you will be like the live frog in the frying pan.
